Vlaai
Daisy Smith received a grant to develop sensory new work. The project called Vlaai uses the fantasy of an old-fashioned nurse prioritising her community to critically examine the pitfalls of modern medicinal care whilst finding comfort in moments of sustained attentiveness.
Daisy is currently living and working in Amsterdam. She works with film and drawings that examine gender and illness, with a concern for compression, removal and mood. Working from a personal archive, family members, friends, previous workplaces and living situations are imagined as part of wider social dramas. She studied at the Ruskin School of Art and Open School East. Previously her films have been screened at the Whitechapel Gallery, Spike Island, CCA Glasgow, South London Gallery, the British Film Institute and Nottingham Contemporary. She is a founder and co-programmer of Mascara Film Club.
