Ena
Ena is an orchestral work created for a specially assembled world music orchestra, where jazz and chamber music merge with musical traditions from Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, and the Arab world — often associated with the makām genre. Composed by Yiorgos Bereris and performed by six musicians, the piece explores musical unity by bringing together diverse traditions into a cohesive whole. The Greek word Ena (meaning “one”) symbolises this fusion — illustrating how makām, classical, and jazz music can seamlessly intertwine. The ensemble, featuring clarinet, violin, duduk, percussion, piano, double bass, flute, and bass clarinet, unites musicians from a range of backgrounds in a shared musical language.
