Slowglass
Artist Pam Virada was selected from the Shimmer X Amarte open call. With the support of Amarte, she has renewed and expanded her installation Slowglass, specifically for the staircase of Shimmer, located in the former RET building in Rotterdam.
Slowglass functions as a slowed-down lens on past and present. Through layers of an intimate table conversation, live CCTV footage from local aquariums, and soap bubbles filled with harbour water, a subtle interplay of circulation, migration, and breath emerges — guiding visitors from the ground floor up to Shimmer on the second floor.
In her interdisciplinary practice, Pam explores the cinematic and the ephemeral within domestic spheres. Using everyday objects, text, and moving image, she reconfigures familiar narratives into “hauntological” spaces — both disorienting and comforting.
The installation will be on view from December 2025 through March 2026.
