Nyala ft. Oene van Geel

Nyala, originally a trio, will invite a fourth musician especially for this concert to further explore their “nyalistic” sound world. Unbound by genre or style, they continue to innovate and colour outside the lines with their music. Together with the imaginative musician Oene van Geel (violin), Pau Li Liem (vocals and piano), Jorrit Romme (drums), and Stef Joosten (electric bass) will share their world and experiences with the audience and present new music.

Nyala is a Tilburg-based trio consisting of Pau Li Liem, Jorrit Romme, and Stef Joosten. Nyala means “flame” in Indonesian, and like a flame, their music is constantly shifting and in motion. It can smoulder — intense yet subdued — but it also has the power to erupt into fiery improvisations and compositions. A melody, a rhythm, a pattern, a text, a mood — these and more are all elements they incorporate. Sometimes fixed and repetitive, other times completely free and improvised, like a flame. Dynamic and shifting from high to low, or occasionally even completely still. Reality appears in a different light through the ever-changing shadows. In 2024, Nyala released their debut album A Way of Life, and they are now ready for new challenges, new music, and fresh experiments.
