Bonsaika Suite

Bonsaika Suite is a suite written and performed for the bonsaïst – or bonsaika. These are people who spend years shaping, pruning, bending, and caring for the same tiny tree. People who know from the start that it will take a long time, yet choose to begin regardless.

With this project, Ruben Drenth invites his audience to experience the beauty of bonsai and the deep attention it demands – but also the focus it can inspire. At the same time, he shows that mindfulness can spiral out of control too, and that there's room to explore the edges. It's not all peace and quiet.

Together with double bassist Daniël Muskitta, Ruben performs the full suite live, guiding you into the sonic world of the bonsaika – a realm of improvisation, Philicorda organ, synthesizer, and ambient soundscapes.
