Ker Enaz act 1
Over the past seven years, Yannick Warmerdam has worked on Ker Enaz act 1, a film that explores the relentlessness, magic, and romance of the constant search of humans and animals for shelter. This ink-on-paper animated film will premiere on Sunday, 12 October, at the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam. The work tells the story of a castaway who washes ashore on the magical island of Ker Enaz, where music holds the power to lure buildings. The film is accompanied by specially composed and recorded cello music by British cellist India Bourne. Sound design is by Max van den Oever, with editing by Tobias Cornelissen.
In the dense fog, a man becomes lost at sea. Longing for home, he is drawn instead by the alluring sound of cellos to the desolate island of Ker Enaz. Despite the cold and mist, the island’s inhabitants appear to have no houses. Day and night they play their cellos atop the high cliffs. The music, however, was not intended for the castaway. What, then, are they trying to lure to their island?
