MONOMAAN
In November 2021, musician and theatre maker Reinier van Harten (REINDIER) was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Music and theatre became a vital source of strength during this challenging period. From this experience emerged the album MONOMAAN, which will be presented this evening as a candid and theatrical concert.
Now recovered, Reinier wishes to give something back. He is therefore creating a concert especially for people undergoing medical treatment: patients, caregivers, and LGBTQIA+ elders. As a queer person, he is acutely aware of the vulnerability such situations can bring.
MONOMAAN explores themes of love, care, and the loneliness often caused by illness. With this project, Van Harten aims to support those who recognise themselves in these experiences, while offering others insight into what it means when life suddenly changes. In a playful and accessible form, he seeks to make difficult themes open for discussion and to contribute to greater understanding and inclusion.
About REINDIER
REINDIER is a pop musician and theatre maker. His career has seen both high peaks and deep lows: a promising start as a musician, followed by a sudden vocal cord paralysis and later hearing loss in one ear. Despite these setbacks, he has continually found his way back through music and theatre. For the first time, he began writing in Dutch – raw and honest. The result is MONOMAAN: an album that is both hopeful and melancholic, ranging from intimate lullabies to danceable disco tracks. A pop record in which REINDIER shares his turbulent journey with humour, emotion, and contagious optimism.
