Whispering Nature

Carel Lanters
13 Sep - 26 Oct 2025

During the Apeldoorn Photo Festival, Carel Lanters will present his recent pinhole photography. The work on view consists of three series: black-and-white prints, pinhole photographs taken on colour film (6x6 cm), and prints on Hahnemühle 308 gsm cotton paper that have subsequently been worked on with watercolour. This latest development in his practice, which he intends to continue exploring, has been supported by a development grant from Amarte.

About Carel Lanters
Carel is a visual artist who has been engaged with pinhole photography for many years alongside his sculptural work. While he initially worked with a tripod, he now moves freely with the camera or mounts it on his bicycle to explore new forms of movement. Since a pinhole camera does not use a lens but a small aperture of approximately 0.2 mm, the images emerge through long exposure times. The results come about intuitively and, in combination with movement, lead to abstract forms that transcend the everyday and evoke new narratives. In doing so, seemingly invisible aspects of reality are revealed.
