Designed for Disaster

Designed for Disaster is an interdisciplinary performance in which six young white people shed light on how they are complicit in racism and white supremacy. This performance is a dynamic mix of intensive and minimalistic movements, prerecorded and fragmented conversations, and music that creates both friction and a sense of calmness.

Berend Jak is a conceptual maker, performance artist, composer, and musician. Art is a way for him to express his values, beliefs, and emotions. He sees an unequal world around him and due to a combination of circumstances, he benefits from this inequality. This doesn't make sense to him emotionally nor rationally, and that's why he wants to work towards a world that he does believe in. Art is the language he wants to use for this purpose.
