Onwerkelijk Amazonia
Onwerkelijk Amazonia is a multidisciplinary installation and performance by Jeisson Drenth, in which art objects, text, sound design and piano music merge into a continuous narrative. During a 60–90 minute programme, visitors can explore the artworks, after which Jeisson gives a presentation that further activates the pieces.
With Onwerkelijk Amazonia, Jeisson has developed a theoretical and spiritual framework for creating new work that interweaves multiple disciplines. He investigates the pre-Columbian cultural history of his ancestors and connects this research to contemporary experiences of displacement, bicultural identity and the challenge of relating to Dutch society today. Through text and music, he seeks an embodied form in which critical inquiry can be transformed into enduring vulnerability and determination.
